This video illustrates a two foot diameter water bell responding to a sequence of programmed instructions. The program includes random pattern generating elements so that over time the shape changing behavior doesn't exactly repeat. In this video I have programmed the water bell to give some idea of the range of dynamic behaviors that are possible to generate.
This video illustrates the waterbell responding to classical violin. Response time can be adjusted to make the waterbell respond to a slow or fast tempo.
In this video I am controlling the shape and size of the waterbell using an ultrasonic rangefinder coupled to the electronics to drive the waterbell. The distance from the envelope of my hands and proximal torso are used to set the moment to moment size of the bell.
